A robust new media strategy and plan is critical to the success of any advocacy campaign; it’s not enough for organizations to open accounts and pages on various sites and leave them to languish. Organizations need to develop strong plans and strategies that are seamlessly incorporated into their overall organizational goals. This session will focus on determining which tools are the best for what you are trying to achieve–the people you need to reach may already be congregating somewhere without you.

How can more mainstream social media activists work with workers in the more radical media?

Some of the most interesting stories in Minnesota are most thoroughly covered in venues like IndyMedia and Fight Back News (Jimmy Johns organizing; indigenous activism; FBI raids, Wikileaks,etc). While these online publications are representative of the radical left, the information and contacts in under-represented communities are invaluable for the more daring progressive blogger. How can more mainstream social media activists work with workers in the more radical media?
